Rocket Launch

1.Terrain Genereation & Base Mesh:

This initial phase establishes the foundational topography, scale, and composition of the entire environment. I first create a plane and I subdivide it to create more topology for sculpting the basic forms. After sculpting I applied a displacement moddifier to make it more realistic.

2.Asset Production & Prop Modeling:

This phase focused on bringing the world to life by modeling all the structural and environmental assets in Blender, balancing visual fidelity with performance optimization.

Hero Asset Workflow (The Rocket & Launchpad)

  • High-Detail Modeling: Creating the centerpiece elements using a mix of hard-surface modeling techniques and procedural modifiers.

  • Structural Integrity: Designing the launchpad with a focus on mechanical realism, functional details, and architectural scale.

Simple Objects (Houses & Streetlights)

  • Basic Shapes: I used simple geometry and clean lines to model the houses and streetlights quickly.

  • Reusable Pieces: I created a few basic pieces and duplicated them to build the platform efficiently.

3.Vegetation & Terrain Assets:

Creating the Foliage

  • Asset Variety: I modeled different variations for the trees to avoid repetition.

  • Low-Poly Design: I kept the 3D models simple so the computer could handle thousands of them without slowing down.

Scattering with Particle Systems

  • Natural Distribution: I used Blender’s particle systems to automatically scatter the trees and grass across the terrain base.

  • Random Variations: I randomized the size and rotation of the particles to create a more natural and realistic look.

For the grass I used a hair particle system combined with weight painting, I didnt moddel any grass.

4.Character Moddeling:

For the character I used simple box moddeling and sculpting to make the clothes texture more realistic. I didnt spend too much time making this because I think this isnt the main thing in this scene.

5.Texturing:

Procedural Shading

  • Node-Based Materials: I connected different nodes (like color ramps and noises) to create custom materials for the terrain, assets, and props.

  • Easy Adjustments: This method allowed me to change colors, roughness, and details quickly at any time.

Material Application

  • Consistent Look: I reused base shaders across different models to make sure the whole scene shared the same artistic style.

  • Smart Details: I used nodes to add subtle variations, making surfaces like the rocket metal or the house walls look more interesting.

HDRI Lighting

  • Global Illumination: I used an HDRI map to light the entire scene naturally, capturing realistic sky colors and ambient reflections.

  • Atmospheric Mood: Choosing the right HDRI helped establish the specific time of day and overall tone of the environment. [1]

6.Fire Simulation & VFX:

To make the scene more dynamic and dramatic, I added a realistic engine fire effect to the rocket.

Fluid Simulation

  • Smoke & Fire Domain: I set up a fluid simulation using a smoke domain to capture the shape and movement of the rocket's exhaust.

  • Physics Tweaking: I adjusted the simulation settings to make the fire rise and dissipate naturally according to the scale of the rocket.

Shader Customization

  • Emissive Volume Shader: I used the Shader Editor to control the colors and intensity of the fire, creating a bright glowing core that fades into smoke.

  • Dynamic Look: By tweaking the nodes, I achieved a powerful and stylized look for the engine launch.

7.Final Composition:

To complete the project, I created a short cinematic presentation using Blender’s ray-tracing render engine and dynamic camera movement.

Camera Animation

  • Dynamic Camera Movement: I animated a simple camera path to showcase the scale and depth of the entire environment.

  • Realistic Camera Shake: I added motion modifiers (noise curves) to the camera animation to simulate a handheld feel, making the shot look more organic and realistic.

Cycles Rendering

  • High-Fidelity Rendering: I used the Cycles engine to achieve realistic global illumination, accurate shadows, and physically correct material reflections.

  • Final Delivery: I rendered the final animation sequence, ensuring clean image quality and optimized sample settings.
